We just spent the past weekend at the Stampede grounds visiting and watching the Chuckwagon races. It was good to see everyone again, and the weather FINALLY cooperated here in the Hat for the drivers and their teams. For the first time in the 7 years that we have gone to watch, there was dust on the track.
We saw the regulars there!
Skippy the Squirrel came up to the boys and shook their hands. The second night he had a water gun and was spraying everyone. Carter was pretty nervous when he came around.
I took these next pictures for Father Bill.
I thought I would take a picture of each race to show you the team that Codey hooked up.
Night #1 - time of 105.51
(He ran over a barrel but otherwise he won the race!)
Day #3 - time of 105.01
Day #3 - time of 105.01
Friday night after the races we went back to the barns. Carter was a bit upset that Codey lost his race. He and Codey had a little chat and the next thing I knew, Codey took Carter for a little walk and gave him two new autographed posters. Carter was in his glory!
Then, to top off his night, Codey took Carter by the hand and went for another walk and came back over to us like this......
He said, "This is way better than my cat!"
By this point he was totally hamming it up. We all got a pretty good chuckle out of it.
He was hanging on so tight to the horse's mane, that when he let go, the little bunch of hair was standing straight up!
(It would have had nothing to do with his sticky fingers from cotton candy!)
Carter then wanted to take a picture of Codey himself.
Carter then wanted to take a picture of Codey himself.
This is what he got!
I then wanted to get one of the two of them.
Mark printed this picture off and we had Carter autograph it and he gave it to Codey after the races this afternoon. Codey was going to hang it up in the tack room. (I just asked Mark what that was.....it is where all the harnesses hang, etc.) It was going to go on tour with them anyhow.
Medicine Hat is only stop number two for them, so they still have a busy summer ahead. The idea is to run fast and penalty free and hopefully make it into the Calgary Stampede next year.
Codey ended up 16th over all.
(This could still change because of an inquiry on the final race as to the winner getting more penalty's.)

Perhaps rodeo'ing is in Carter's future?? He looks like a natural on that horse.
Where was Logan during all this? Didn't he get to go for a ride, too?
(PS - I get nervous around watergun-toting stuffed animals, too!)
Do you want a horse for your birthday, Carter? Waaaaaay better than a cat!!
